American River Watershed

Maines Estate Land Purchase

The Maines Estate parcel (149 meadow acres transected by mainstem American River and Lick Creek) has the most productive spawning and rearing habitat for Steelhead and Spring/Summer Chinook Salmon in the American River watershed, as recognized by the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG).  This private property is under the threat of being subdivided and developed, and/or logged in the near future.  The property is located within an Inventoried Roadless Area.  NPT, BPA, and the Forest Service are very interested in pursuing the acquisition of this critical parcel of anadromous fish and wildlife habitat.

Tributary to WF American River Culvert Replacement

A culvert near the mouth of an unnamed tributary to West Fork American River is a complete fish passage barrier for approximately  1 mile of potential fish habitat.  A design for an aquatic organism passage culvert was designed in 2012 and the culvert will be replaced in 2013.
